Main task - Evaluation
Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
I feel that I have developed hugely with my
filming as in my preliminary task I had made many mistakes. For example whilst
filming the conversation between two characters, my group and I only used a two
shot rather than using a range of different angle shots.

Main task - Evaluation
What have you learnt about the technologies from the process of constructing this product?
We created our two-minute
film by using a HD video camera to create a HD quality to make it clearer to
watch and then importing it easily and quickly onto Final Cut Pro.

We used Final Cut Pro, for editing as this
helped us organise our film in the correct order we wanted and allowed us to
change it around, cut it and add in effects such as transitions. We also added
sound into our film, which Final Cut Pro allowed us to add in. We used various
transitions to make our film interesting and the use of transitions helped the flow of clip to
clip. As well as giving it a professional look. By using Final Cut Pro it
allowed us to change the speed of some of our clips for example we increased
the speed of our first two opening clips as originally they were too slow. We
used text to create our titles for our film, by doing this we had to test
around the different functions to find the correct fonts and movement of texts
as this makes an impact on the film, as it has to fit in with the genre of the
movie.

In addition, I have also learnt the use of blogs on the internet, which we had used to put up our planning and research. This allowed us to store our information safely and make it accessible at anytime to refer back to whilst filming if we needed to. By using the blog, it also allowed us to edit, delete posts which came in useful.
Main task - audience feedback for evaluation.
In general our film received positive feedback from our target audience as they were engaged at the very beginning. However, a negative criticism that was made was the quality of the video and also some had felt the storyline was quite confusing.
“I
really liked it. The film is very conventional, nice range of shots &
angles. I liked the fact you don't see her face. You build tension straight
away with the intro. The only downside I'd say is the clicking on the sound
files you've used. It's a little low quality, but for your level, it's a really
good piece.”
“This reminded me of The Lord of the Rings, I really loved how you edited it”
“I think everything was fine but were the words on the papers in
the chamber scene supposed to be visible? The camera was a little blurred in
those parts”
“I love how the first scene after the intro was shot. It felt like I
was watching a movie in the theatres.

Who would be the audience for your media product?
Our media product is aimed for the age range 15+ which is our classification, however our media product is suitable for all ages over 15, it is not intentionally targeted for the mid-teen age range as we wanted a range of ages watching our media product. We chose for the film to be a 15 because according to the BBFC a 15 Horror has a description of ‘strong threat and menace are permitted unless sadistic or sexualised’. Our movie does not contain sadistic or sexualized horror therefore we felt this was the appropriate age range targeted audience for our movie.
How did you attract/address your audience?

How did you attract/address your audience?
I believe that my partner and I created an enigma in the opening of our film, which was our aim. To do this we used dim lighting in the hide out to not expose a lot of what was around as this could have ruined our mise-en-scene. By using dim lighting also set the mood for the audience to be mysterious about what is going on, as it is hard to see where the character is and what the character is doing. For lighting we only used candles because this successfully set the mood as well as the flickers of the flames made it look effective.

As seen on this animated image the only lighting used were the candle lights and the flickering of the flames created a homely but yet effective look.

We used certain angle shots where the characters face is never shown; this created the mystery and curiosity from our audience as the identity is unknown. We used variety of angle shots such as close ups, slow zooms, low angle shots, point of view shots as all these varieties of angle shots created enigma. By keeping the characters identity hidden, we were able to create a mysterious atmosphere, therefore increasing the tension and the interest in the characters past. We also used quick cuts to create emphasis on the suspense and building up tension. Our first opening scene, our establishing shot where the character is running is an ambiguous opening as no one is certain to why or where she is running. The costumes we used such as a black hoodie, gloves and black trousers created a mysterious aspect as the characters identity is not revealed and this makes the audience curious to who this person was.

As seen on this animated image, 5 different angle shots were used in the space of 15 seconds. This creates an automatic interpretation on our audience setting the mood of our film.

Here is a prop from our film, the pen knife. By using the pen knife this created a dark mood as by the diegetic sound of the pen knife cutting through the paper and onto the board makes the audience feel uncomfortable.
